Year of Projects- 8/26/12

Progress this week has finally slowed a bit. Which sounds a little weird, almost like I was waiting for it to stall. This is absolutely NOT the case. I wish I was still getting stuff off the needles as quickly as I did during the Ravellenic Games, but the slow down was inevitable. Especially since my list of “quick” projects grows shorter all the time.

The strange thing I’m noticing about my list of projects- the socks seem to be the place I’ve stalled out the most. This is a change for me because I am a sock knitter first and foremost. Maybe it’s because my sock drawer all but explodes every time I open it, but I just don’t have the same drive to knit them lately. I still have one with me almost every time I leave the house, I am just no focused on knitting them AT home. Which is OK. I’m enjoying a grand tour of other knitting. I just haven’t quite grown accustom to this “new normal” yet.

This week’s big focus has been my Wingspan. Its an intriguing knit, especially with a yarn with long color gradients. I don’t think I’d do very well with this pattern if the yarn weren’t keeping it interesting, though. Garter stitch gets a bit dull after a while. So I’m happy to say it’s been a quick knit. Averaging a triangle per day it’s about a week long project. Can’t complain about that. Casting on something new is one of my favorite things to do so getting this one done and something new on is a win!

  1. Hi, I’ve searched on Ravelry every way I can think of and I cannot find A 2nd Year of Projects…help!

  2. The wingspan is on my list too but I haven’t gotten it cast on yet. Several women in my yarn group have made them and really enjoy it – and yes, they all used color changing yarn – none have been solid πŸ™‚

  3. I’m a sock knitter too, and sometimes I just don’t feel like knitting socks. Usually some sort of fun project from worsted is a nice break. Like a knitted toy or something πŸ™‚ Or a shawl if you’d rather πŸ˜‰

  4. I love your wingspan project and it looks like you finished it! I have it in my favs and garter stitch would be fine with me but yes…it would have to be color changing. Your new kit knit looks really advanced….gorgeous but I’m just a beginner so stuff like that scares me! LOL! good luck!

    • It isn’t as challenging as it looks but it requires constant referral to the pattern which, for me, is the difficult part! Finished the first repeat though so I’m making good progress!

  5. My socks are still in the time out chair and I’ve moved on to hats..I’m not experienced enough for a wingspan proect!

  6. I love that Helen sock pattern – just added it to my favourites. It’s ok to turn your attention elsewhere when you have enough socks.

  7. I’ve just started knitting lots of socks, so I think I’ve taken over your sock knitting mojo! You’ve made so much progress, I’m impressed!

  8. I think when people who only knit one kind of thing slow down on that item for other types of items it shows they are becoming a more rounded knitter! πŸ™‚ I am doing a garter stitch Wonder Blanket with all my yarn scraps, and find it to be great, relaxing tv knitting. Cant’ wait to see your shawl!
