3/31/13 YOP Update

Well this is unusual… I think it marks the first time in MONTHS where something’s come off the list, something on the list has made it to the needles and nothing, I repeat NOTHING, has been added to the list! In fact, I’ve actually takn a couple of things OFF the list that I know just aren’t happening right now.  They may or may not make their way back onto the list before the end of June but for now, they’re gone!

Back when the list was a mere 34 items long I thought I’d knit my way through them and call it a good year.  Now that the list has almost doubled, I’ve knit my way through it and called it a start!

If I’ve learned anything through my Year of Projects experiment, it’s that I actually am a pretty fast knitter and I get a lot more knitting time than I’d have thought possible. I call it a trade off for the crumb munchers I don’t have. Most days I think it’s a pretty fair trade! So as it turns out the bigger challenge for me in the YOP experiment has been not growing the list to ridiculous proportions. I think its safe to say I’ve grown it to insane proportions, but not quite to ridiculous…

So anyway, the list as it stands today:

  1. You have a lot crossed off congratulations! I keep a pinterest board with photos of my finishes to encourage me. Seems like I can knit a lot more than I thought I could.

  2. You’ve done lots. For me the YoP is a lot about discipline. I don’t knit exclusively from my list, but I do try to get most if not all of my list done … it pushes me to start and finish the ones that I’m hesitating on. Sometimes those are the most rewarding knits because they take me out of my comfort zone.

  3. it is interesting to track what changes over the year– both in what I want to knit and how I want to knit. Right now I’m in a lace mood, but I suspect that as the weather warms up I’ll drift back to heavier yarns (I hate how sweaty my hands get knitting laceweight in the summer!)

You are making really impressive progress, and I’ve loved following along with you!

  4. Doing what works is the name of the game. Well Done

  5. I’d say if nothing else, the discovery that you actually have lots of knitting time makes the YOP worthwhile! What a nice bonus that you’re getting so much else out of it!

  6. Sometimes you have to set big goals for yourself so that you get more done. True even for knitting!

  7. 48 out of 58 completed! Wonderful! I love your projects 🙂
